The performance, from the title “The ring and the book” is the prologue of a wider audio-visual project that investigates, through the case of Giordano Bruno, the structure and limits of a juridical process as a form of analysis for mystical and metaphysical realities.
In continuity with the studies of Alberto Savino expressed in his Dieci Processi, written between 1932 and 1935 for the law magazine "I Rostri", the performance aims to reflect on a particular form of judicial iniquity that challenges the very nature of justice and the sacrality of law: before being victim of human injustice, each of the well-known figures examined by Savino (Anassagora, Galileo, Jesus and Joan of Arc) was victim of his or her own mysticism.
“Isn’t justice itself a form of mysticism? Is law not sacred? These great processes are, therefore, the clash of to forms of mysticism, two different beliefs”.
The reflection takes the form of an “expanded conference”, a story made of more voices that is intertwined with references and other stories, among which the poem in verses inspired by the finding of the documents of an epistolary process The Ring and the Book of Robert Browning, which gives the title to this performance.
Like Chinese boxes or footnotes, each character narrates his or her own vision of the facts, an aspect of knowledge (magical, scientific, philosophical) that is continually narrated and re-narrated, halfway between a kaleidoscopic theatrical monologue and a critical text.

This project has been selected and supported by the sponsorship committee of FNAGP - Fondation Nationale des Arts Graphiques et Plastiques.
