The project The Heads in Question is conceived by artist Rossella Biscotti as a succession of layers. Started on 4 April 2009 with the transportation of five bronze portraits of Vittorio Emanuele III and Benito Mussolini – previously never shown to the public - from the storages of EUR to Nomas Foundation, where they were exhibited for five days, it continued with the installation of a large photograph of the sculptures in the exhibition space, which represents the trace of this passage, and is a second step of the project.
To mark the end of the show, the artist invites the audience to attend a lecture/performance, which will take place on a wooden stage occupying the entire surface of the foundation. The tangible element of the architecture aims at representing the occasion for a material and public reflection on the relationship between art and power, history and memory, art and historical context, in the attempt to question the relationship between artist and commissioner and how it evolved, as well as the function of art in different historical and cultural contexts.
